Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins will be able to support and ensure the continuity of an important sector in Québec’s economy

Montréal, March 30, 2010 -Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins (CRCD) is proud to contribute to the creation of the Fonds d’investissement pour la relève agricole (Investment fund for the future of agriculture), which was announced today as part of the 2010 Québec Budget.

This is a $75 million fund, $25 million of which are provided by Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins. Other partners are the Fonds de solidarité de la FTQ and Financière agricole du Québec. These investments will support young Quebecers who wish to become involved in agriculture.

Through its participation, Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins will be able to support and ensure the continuity of an important sector in Québec’s economy, especially in the outlying regions.

“We are very proud to be investing in this new Fund; this is a natural association that supports our mission and allows us to pursue our successful synergy with the Desjardins network, especially with its agricultural business centres,” said Capital régional et coopératif Desjardins Board of Directors President André Lachapelle. Note that Desjardins is the key partner of Québec’s agricultural sector, with nearly 50% of the market.

Lachapelle also wishes to thank the government, which recognized Capital régional’s strong position in the Québec venture capital industry, especially with small and medium-size businesses in outlying regions.
